Teams of three played from both the 1st & 10th tees adjacent to the Mansion; soft drinks and bananas were very welcome refreshments after nine holes. Following some impressive golf, including a new course record by Denise Hill, the management hosted a Pimms reception in the Mansion and then an outstanding three course evening meal in the Orangery, prepared by the resident catering team at The Rolls. Miss Linda Kedward, the Office Manager, gave a short speech of welcome. A brief message from Mr. Todd Wenner, Company Director, was read by Wendy Holder, the Lady Captain. Mr. Wenner was very disappointed that he wasn’t able to attend the celebrations. Wendy and her husband Graham, The Club Captain, presented the generous prizes to the winners. The five founder members were presented with commemorative salvers by Mrs Sandra Orton, the Club Secretary. The evening was brought to an entertaining conclusion by Brian Huggett. After proposing the toast to The Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club, all present thoroughly enjoyed his informative and witty responses during a “question and answer” session. All who were lucky enough to be present were full of praise for the greenkeepers, caterers and staff of the golf club. The Rolls remains very healthy after its first 25 years and there is good reason to look forward to a bright future at this outstanding Welsh golf course. The Rolls of Monmouth celebrates its 25th Anniversary Among the others to be invited were five of the Founder Members of the Club: John Wigmore, Joan Morgan,Olive Betteridge, Bob Rooney and Alex Sebright (inset).
All five are still active members. ![]() ![]() The management at The Rolls decided that this was a suitable time to thank their loyal members. Guests were invited from the Gwent Golf Union and the Wales Tourism & Marketing Board. The Club was delighted that Mr. Brian Huggett MBE, one of the finest professional golfers that Wales has ever produced and the first Welshman to Captain the Ryder Cup Team, accepted the invitation to be the guest of honour.
The sun was out, the sky was blue and not a sight to spoil the view. Even a few wayward putts couldn’t dampen the celebrations at the 25th Anniversary of The Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club.
Despite the wet weather in the preceding weeks, the course was in wonderful condition and looked superb as the Club opened its doors to invited guests and members to help celebrate the first 25 years as a golf course. ![]() GOLF CLUB and Function Suite |
